SEARCH and
Catholic School Retreats May 11-13, 2012
We've
got a number of retreat opportunities coming up this year for both high school and middle school students. For high school
students, we're putting together our inaugural Archdiocesan SEARCH Retreat (May 11-13, 2012 Camp Don Bosco) -a chance
for youth to encounter Christ in Word and Sacrament. Likewise, our Impact Retreat Team provides custom and predesigned retreats
as needed to parishes and schools.
Ascend Camp July 16th-20th 2012
Take advantage of these unique opportunities for energetic,
faithful, Catholic youth from all over Western Washington to have fun and develop leadership skills to take back to their
parishes.
Ascend continues a long tradition within the Archdiocese of providing quality opportunities for leadership
development for our high-school-aged youth. Ascend seeks to support and train freshmen and sophomores in high school identified
locally for leadership roles by their parishes and school communities. The program involves a planning team of 6-8 professionals,
a staff of 20 adults and young adults, and +100 youth participants.

Announcement of New Parish-Based Young Adult Small Groups
The Archdiocese of Seattle recognizes the importance of the parish as a spiritual
home for every individual, and is excited to announce its implementation of parish-based small group ministry for young adults!
The first stage will consist of piloting initial groups in four regions of the Archdiocese - Seattle, Vancouver, Tacoma and
in the Northern part of the Archdiocese- with teams of young adults from various parishes in that region. The groups will
gather twice a month for faith formation and leadership training. Faith formation in the small groups will incorporate prayer,
fellowship, Scripture study and Catechesis, all tailored to address the unique needs of young adults. The Office of Youth
and Young Adult Ministry will directly support these groups through resource provision, small group facilitation, assistance
in evangelization skills and peer ministry development, and a consistent presence. To compliment the small groups, the Archdiocese
will continue to offer large events, such as Wine and Wisdom, monthly service opportunities and multiple yearly retreats.
During the second phase of implementation, members of the pilot
group will take the model and ideas back to their own parishes, with the intent of rooting a meaningful young adult community
in their parish, integrating similar programs within that community, and training new leaders to ensure the continuation of
the ministry into the future. We believe this cycle can only have a positive impact, particularly because it is peer-driven
and encourages a greater ownership of new ministries. The Archdiocese will continue to support and advocate for parish-based
small group ministry, and will provide ongoing leadership development.

Camp 4:12 Jr. High Leadership Experience
"Let no one have contempt for your youth, but set an example for those who believe, in speech, conduct, love,
faith, and purity." - 1 Timothy 4:12.
This
leadership experience offers those individuals entering grades 7-9 the opportunity to enhance their leadership ability. Participants
will strengthen their relationship with Christ and one another, while enjoying all that Camp Don Bosco has to offer. We will
spend our time identifying the gifts we already have for leadership, and developing the concrete tools for leadership in parish
programs. Youth ministers are encouraged to bring a team of youth to participate in this leadership retreat.
